Well, here we are at the end of a very busy term which I have enjoyed immensely. Walking around the School, observing the pupils at work and play and engaging enthusiastically in school life have been highlights. Working with young people, watching them learn and experiencing their enthusiasm and wonder is a great joy. Evidence of this joy was abundantly alive during the Club Singing competition today. Each Club was in full melodious voice and they gave their all to the competition. It was a very close competition but Panthers had the X Factor and won the cup. The Club Netball competition was equally as exciting on Wednesday. The girls all entered into the spirit of the event and showcased some excellent netball skills. Well done to all of the Clubs, the Club Captains and Club Presidents.
Children, like adults, need time to rest, opportunities to select activities they enjoy and lots of time relaxing with family and friends. May the next few weeks be a time of refreshment for us all after a very busy Lent term. Please note that the pupils return to school in their summer uniform and a reminder that if ears are pierced, only plain studs should be worn. If you have any queries about uniform or any procedures in the School, the guide to the Prep School on the website is a handy reference. The calendar with all dates for next term will be clarioned to parents over Easter. In the meantime here are the details of the first week back:

Achievements
Florence McDougall swam a one mile swimathon for Sport Relief and raised £160.
Olivia Filtness was awarded the silver medal for her studies in performing arts at Stagecoach for an uninterrupted period of four years.
Philip Thomson was awarded the Sharks Player of the Week from Olney Rugby Club.
Freddie Ivory, Jack Thomsen and Jamie Dunn are all key players in the Olney rugby team, turning in excellent individual performances and, of all the tries scored by Olney, almost 50% were scored by these three. They played some amazing rugby and lovely teamwork, managing to run (and plough) through opposition defences with real skill and courage.
Risks Children Face Online
63% of teens surveyed admit they know how to hide what they do online from their parents We have had a report this week that children as young as 10 years old in our school community are accessing online pornography on their own and their parents’ devices. This is a real problem and one which we need to address as a school and parent body. Click here for further information on how parents can help.

Year 4 History
This week, Year 4 have been researching and then designing an Anglo-Saxon village. In small groups they had to find out what an Anglo-Saxon village might have looked like, what it contained and how it was protected. Once they had all their information they then drew out their plan and have now started to create them in class, making sure they label each item they include to explain what it is and what it was useful for, such as a food source or building materials. Some of the children have even brought in materials from home to make them more realistic and discovered that there were some advantages to living on a farm!

Year 7 Tudor Day
‘History off the Page’ once again came and visited us with their Tudor experience and the pupils in Year 7 were given a taste of what it might have been like to live during the time of the Tudors. Thank you to the parent helpers who entered fully into the spirit of the day by joining the pupils and dressing in their Tudor costumes. Please click here to read articles written by Jack Thomsen and Charlotte Holmes.

Equestrian
Next term we will be hosting the Wellingborough School showjumping competition during the Trinity half term holiday. As in other years, our event will be a regional qualifier for the NSEA National Schools Championships, which is in its 20th year. Our competition will be held on Thursday 2nd June at The College Equestrian Centre, Keysoe. By running our own competition, we generate the funds used to provide entry fees for our team to ride at all the other events throughout the year.
We are looking for sponsorship for this year's event and would like to hear from parents who might know of any businesses or individuals who would be interested in supporting us. We would like to have four sponsors, one for each of the main classes. This would involve a sponsorship amount of £250 per class which would result in the company name being printed on all the rosettes for that class, provide space for an advertisement within the electronic schedule, enable the company to display a banner at the event and, if they should wish to do so, the opportunity for a representative to present the rosettes and prizes for the class. I will be finalising the schedule for distribution to all the NSEA member schools across the country when we return from the Easter holidays (mid-April) so would be very grateful if you were able to let me know of any interest in sponsoring our event within the next week. Please contact me at ko@wellingboroughschool.org.

A mathematical “Pause For Thought” for parents!
The first person to email the correct answer will win a mathematical pencil. Please email prep-office@wellingboroughschool.org.
(Q) At the shop the other day, I was told that six would cost £2, twelve would cost £4, but I could have a hundred for £6. How can you explain this strange pricing?
Congratulations to Mrs Gray who was the first person to correctly answer last week’s quiz. The answer was: Write down 19 as roman numerals XIX. When you take away the I, you are left with XX or 20.

Country of the Day (just for fun)
To continually improve location knowledge in the Prep School, here is a daily challenge from Dr Fordham and the students of 7AF. Your focus for each day is to locate the country on a map! If that is too easy, there are some extension questions too…
- Daily challenge:
Monday 18th April - Bolivia
Tuesday 19th April - French Polynesia
Wednesday 20th April - Venezuela
Thursday 21st April – Sierra Leone
Friday 22nd April – Falkland Islands - Extension questions:
1. What is the capital city of this country?
2. What does the flag look like?
3. How many people live in this country?
4. What are the most notable features of this country?
