Welcome back

I hope that everyone has had a thoroughly enjoyable break and that you are ready for a full and exciting term. During the holidays a number of activities and events occurred; the U12/13 girls had a successful Gresham’s Hockey Tournament, where they reached the semi-finals in the indoor event. The North Norfolk coast can be a fairly exposed place on a cold and windy day and on Sunday it was just that, with goalposts being blown over and the outdoor hockey having to be postponed. This however did not dampen (sorry!) the girls' enjoyment of the weekend.

The holiday activities once again proved to be hugely successful, giving plenty of children a range of sporting activities in which to participate.

The Equestrian Team have had a busy holiday. You can read of their successes further on in this newsletter.

Thank you to all the staff that gave up a portion of their holidays in order to supervise or coach the children.

Website

Earlier on in the week you will have received a ClarionCall to inform you that our new website has gone live. We are experiencing some glitches, all of which are being addressed but I hope you have been able to find the essential areas, notably the calendar with the new filter system, which we trust you find useful. This new site has been set live as a base site and it is the intention that we will evolve the look and feel of it, as new material is uploaded over the coming months.

The College Equestrian Centre
Our Equestrian Team riders enjoyed  two sessions of showjumping training at The College Equestrian Centre in Keysoe (the venue for our own show in May) on Monday 30th March and Glebe Farm EC on Thursday 16th April. Oliver Morris, Keira Stoute and Kate Lohoar represented the Prep School but a wide range of ages and abilities were catered for with riders attending from Year 3 up to the Sixth Form, jumping courses ranging from 50cm to 1.1m. As always, Daniel Delsart offered his expert tuition and all of the riders benefitted from the experience both in terms of improving skills and bonding with fellow team members.

Oakley Hunt West Pony Club Showjumping
Mark Stockdale, Isabelle Thomas and Oliver Morris travelled to Bury Farm near Leighton Buzzard to represent Wellingborough School. They all jumped clear at 50cm and were placed 1st as a team. Isabelle was also placed 1st and Oliver 2nd individually because they were very fast! At 60cm, Oliver and Mark jumped clear and they came 6th as a team. Mark and Isabelle jumped as individuals at 70cm, both got clear rounds and Isabelle was placed 2nd individually, again based on speed. They have subsequently all qualified for the NSEA Grass Roots Championships. Well done team!

Headington School’s Showjumping
The team competed in two classes.  In the first class, Oliver rode with determination and Mark picked up 4 faults. Isabelle completed a fast, clear round and was placed 1st out of 24 riders, winning a huge rosette and a brand new rug for her horse. In the second class, Oliver had some unlucky refusals and Mark had a slight failure in his map reading whilst on course and finished on 4 faults again. Meanwhile, Isabelle rode another speedy clear round to help the team to finish in 3rd place and she was the overall individual winner for this class too!

This is all good preparation for our own showjumping competition at half term (28th May). We are always looking for willing volunteers to help as runners etc., so if any other pupils would like to help out at this event, please let Mrs Owen know.

Artist of the week

All Year 7 have made their own Andy Goldsworthy inspired masterpiece and deserve a mention but William Heath has carefully arranged pulses, rice, beans and lentils to create a ‘Day of the Dead Skull’ stuck carefully onto canvas. A brilliant piece of work, well done!
