Anti-Bullying Ambassadors
Anti-Bullying Ambassadors (ABA) are an important part of our anti-bullying procedure. This will be the fourth year that senior pupils in the PS have been trained to take on the very important responsibility of becoming an ABA. The training gives the ABAs a platform to spread the anti-bullying message, as well as support pupils in the playground and around the School.

Girls Join Choir
The girls have several choirs that they can join but the treble section of the Chapel Choir had always been the preserve of the boys, that is until now. Like other long standing establishments with choirs, the introduction of girls is welcomed and probably overdue. So over the last couple of weeks, the girls have been encouraged to join choir practice on a Wednesday morning, with the added incentive of a ‘bacon butty’ and this Sunday, at the Harvest Service, the girls will have their first opportunity to sing as part of the Chapel Choir.

History Trip
Taking a school trip can be challenging enough at the best of times with all its responsibilities, primarily ensuring the same number of pupils return as left. However, add to the equation appalling weather and it is enough to make one lose one’s hair. Despite all that the gods could throw at them, Mr Pickett and his intrepid Y6 had a very full and successful visit to Mountfitchet Castle. Please find images of the trip via Twitter @WboroPrepSchool.

Club Matches
Playing for your Club seems to generate greater passion than playing for the School. This year there was a change of timing (the event moved to the beginning of the term) and a ‘tweak’ to the format (Y7 and Y8 split to play as separate year groups); both changes have had beneficial consequences. In our annual parental exit questionnaire, a comment occasionally made is that children in lower games have a limited opportunity to be seen and then can miss out on selection for higher teams. The changes Mr Irvine has made will have addressed that concern and Wednesday’s matches gave all the coaches plenty of opportunity to see all the children from Y5 to Y8. To view results click here.

Achievements
Isabelle Thomas (Y6) achieved 1st place trophy and rosette for 60cm showjumping at South Kilworth Riding Club and 5th and 6th place rosettes for U10 showjumping at the Macmillan Charity Show.
Niall Mahon (Y5) achieved 1st place rosette for a double clear round in 45cm showjumping at his first show.
Freddie Ivory (Y7) was awarded Olney Rugby Club Player of the Week for excellent rucking and mauling.
Archie Forster (Y5) was awarded Hackleton Harriers U10 Rugby Club Man of the Match
Jack Bates (Y4) was awarded Northampton Saints U10 Cricket Club Development Player of the Season.
Molly Barnes (Y7) achieved distinction for her Bronze Classical Greek dance exam. She also received a medal at the All England Dance Finals held in London during the summer.
Keira Stoute (Y6) was awarded Rushden & Higham U10 Rugby Club Player of the Week.

8CP Assembly
This morning’s assembly on the ‘Refugee Crisis’ was one of the most powerful and thought provoking that we have listened to in a long time. ‘Seventy three years ago a country closed its borders to a group of people that needed help and now they look back in shame at that action. How will we view our actions in the future?’ These are the words out of the mouths of children this morning. This was an apposite assembly following Pope Francis’ speech to the US Congress in which he said, ‘We must not be taken aback by their numbers, but rather view them as persons, seeing their faces and listening to their stories.’ A video clip, in support of Save The Children's Refugee Crisis Appeal, was also used in this morning’s assembly, to view click here. The pupils concluded by using words from Matthew’s Gospel - 'I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me'. Thank you 8CP.

Anti-Bullying Ambassador Training
Specific training for our fourteen selected Anti-Bullying Ambassadors is incredibly important in order for them to feel confident in their role moving forwards throughout Y8. Their training included looking at the different definitions of bullying and how they, as ABA's, would define bullying. They also looked at the stereotypical 'victim' and 'bully' and concluded that in fact any person could fall into each of these categories and both would need guidance in order to help situations. Different scenarios were presented and discussed and the ABA's felt assured of their role moving forwards. They are very much looking forward to promoting their work during Anti-Bullying week after half term.

Year 6 Mountfitchet Castle
On Tuesday, 22nd September, Year 6 travelled through the monsoon to sunny Essex for a day at Mountfitchet Castle. Pupils are currently studying the Normans and were able to get a very ‘hands on’ experience at the castle sampling life as a medieval Norman. The pupils were excellent and a great deal was learnt. A more detailed report from the pupils will follow next week.

Library Deleted Stock Sale
As the library has a limited shelf space, it is necessary on occasions to edit the current book stock to allow room for new books. Following the most recent edit, I will be selling off the deleted books in the library from next week. All the books are priced between 50p and £1 and the money raised will be used to buy new books for the library.
